Why I LOVE the bass…..

Ever heard a song and the rhythm moved you?

People often pay all of their attention to the singer(s) and not the rhythm section, but I love me some bass.  Often times in a performance the singer(s) is the only person with the spotlight on them while the musicians are in the dark, but I love me some bass.

The foundation of a rhythm starts with the bass.  It’s the baritone of the band. It’s the smoothing talker with the deep voice. If you pay attention, you will begin to miss the smooth sounds of the bass when it’s missing.

The bass player has a very important job in a melody, it links the harmony together.

There is something super cool about the bass and the bass player.

What would a Beatles song be without Sir John? The Parliament Funkadelic or James Brown without Bootsy Collins? Red Hot Chilli Peppers without Flea?

“Without the Fender bass, there’d be no rock n’ roll or no Motown. The electric guitar had been waiting ’round since 1939 for a nice partner to come along. It became an electric rhythm section, and that changed everything.”  –  Quincy Jones
